Natural stone
Natural stone has kept its timeless beauty through the centuries, for a wide range of interior and exterior design. We provide these durable, lasting surfaces for the most demanding residential, commercial and manufacturing applications.
How to choose
- Compare scratch resistance separately from resistance to acid etching.
- Granite and true quartzite resist abrasion better than softer decorative stones.
- Marble, limestone, travertine and calcite onyx react to acidic spills.
- Sealing needs depend on the stone; a sealer does not make it stain-proof.
- Use trivets even when choosing a heat-tolerant stone.
- Choose cleaners for the stone’s mineral makeup, not just its finish.
Best uses
For a working kitchen, start with how much scratching, staining and surface change you will accept. Granite and verified quartzite are strong candidates when abrasion resistance matters. Softer, acid-sensitive stones need more careful placement and daily habits.
For decorative areas, compare full slabs rather than small samples. Review the intended use and care requirements before choosing a stone for a wet area or an exterior surface.
How the materials compare
| Material | Durability | Heat | Maintenance | Seams | Best uses |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Granite | Very high | High | Periodic sealing | Visible | Kitchen countertops, table tops, floors |
| Quartzite | High, abrasion resistant | High | Sealing | Visible | Countertops, tile, cladding |
| Marble | Moderate; etches with acids | Good | Sealing, gentle cleaners | Visible | Baths, fireplaces, floors |
| Soapstone | Soft; scratches add patina | High | Optional mineral oil | Visible | Countertops, sinks, hearths |
| Onyx | Delicate | Moderate | Sealing, gentle use | Visible | Backlit features, accents |
Common questions
Is a sealer the same as an etch protector?
No. An impregnating sealer reduces liquid absorption. It does not stop acids from reacting with calcium-based stone.
Should I choose from a small sample alone?
No. View the actual slabs to understand their color changes, veining and overall pattern.
Does every natural stone need the same maintenance?
No. Mineral content, absorption and finish affect care; ask for instructions for the specific stone you select.
